Introduction

Here we will show you how to make Minecraft TNT! First and foremost acquire five gunpowder and 4 sand. You can find gunpowder by killing creepers that roam around the world in abundance. Sand can be found on beaches or throughout deserts. Regular sand and red sand will work for this recipe. Once you find these two materials, you will be ready for the next steps.

A good tip to obtain more gunpowder would be the use of a looting enchanted sword to kill creepers. This will cause them to drop more gunpowder when killed. Beware of using a fire aspect sword when harvesting gunpower because if the creeper dies to fire damage rather than the sword damage, the looting effect will not apply and you will receive a regular amount of gunpowder instead of the looting boosted amount.

Crafting Table

You need to create and utilize a crafting table to be able to create TNT in Minecraft. Open up the crafting table by right-clicking on it. You will now see a 3×3 grid that you can now add materials to from your inventory.

Crafting Materials

You will need to add the necessary materials for TNT, which are five pieces of gunpowder and four pieces of sand, to the crafting table. Click the material in your inventory and drag it over the grid within the crafting table. You will be placing the gunpowder in an X shape within the grid. The sand will fill in the middle of the edges. See the above photo for an example.

Craft TNT

If you have the recipe correct, you will see the TNT appear in the result box on the right-hand side! Click and grab the TNT and move it to your inventory once its made. You will now be able to use the TNT however you want to.

Now you know how to make Minecraft TNT!

There are a few ways to ignite TNT. The easiest is flint and steel. Simply use the flint and steel on the TNT block and run like heck before it goes ka-boom. Other methods of immediate ignition include hitting it with a fire aspect enchanted tool, shooting it with an arrow from a flame-enchanted bow, or striking it with a flame charge. Redstone mechanics also activate TNT. Therefore, when a powered redstone signal hits a block of TNT it begins ignition and will explode shortly after. This can be used for more coordinated triggering. When dispensed from a dispenser TNT will also ignite.

You need to beware of some other more accidental methods TNT will ignite. These include being touched by fire or lava, being hit by a fireball from a ghast or blaze, or being caught in the radius of another explosion. This includes explosions from other TNT blocks and explosions from mobs, such as a creeper.

Beware TNT can be dangerous if you’re not careful. When it explodes it will destroy surrounding blocks and hurt players and friendly mobs. Keep this in mind when igniting TNT and use caution. Learning how to make Minecraft TNT can spice up your gameplay and add a lot of exciting features to your world. Have fun making your TNT and try not to blow yourself up!
