Unturned PVP Tips #1-10

  • Form a group, there is strength in numbers.
  • Travel with your group. Make sure they are close enough to help you if a fight breaks out or you are ambushed.
  • Always keep your guard up and look around frequently. Have a member of your group be a lookout whenever someone is busy looting, cutting trees, or mining rocks.
  • Try to stay hidden. The element of surprise is a big advantage. The sneakybeaky skill is helpful in close quarters to avoid being heard. Remember crawling while prone produces no noise at all.
  • There is bullet drop, make sure to take this into account at longer distances.
  • Always be moving if you are out in the open. Stand still for too long and you will be dead very quickly if someone is waiting in ambush.
  • Do not rush at an opponent in cover, it will give them the advantage. If possible, keep them pinned in cover and have a teammate flank them.
  • Have additional fighting gear set aside in an easy-to-grab location in your base. If you die, being able to quickly gear up and return to a fight to help your teammates is important.
  • The most important skills for PVP are sharpshooter and exercise. Your aim will drastically improve with sharpshooter maxed out. Exercise will increase your sprinting speed, which will make you harder to hit and allow you to flank or retreat quicker.
  • Other skills that are helpful for PVP include diving, toughness, and healing. Diving is important for sniping because it reduces scope sway. Toughness reduces the flinch effect when taking damage, which will help you keep your aim when taking fire. Healing will make healing items heal for more, which will reduce your overall time spent returning yourself to full health mid-fight.

Unturned PVP Tips #11-20

  • Never turn on flashlights or headlamps. You might as well be holding up a neon “shoot me” sign. Both military and civilian night vision glow and make you easier to spot at night.
  • Always watch out for a 3rd party during a fight. Other groups may hear the gunfire and seek to take advantage of the situation.
  • Always have plenty of dressings and ammo on you for an extended fight. If you and your opponent both have good cover, you can go back and forth trading shots and healing for quite some time.
  • Avoid the above situation. If you do not think you can quickly end a fight, avoid taking it. Your enemy could have help nearby or a 3rd party could ambush you.
  • Don’t be afraid to retreat if you are outnumbered or your group is dead. There is no reason for you to lose your gear too. However, if you will just get gunned down while running away, you should stand and fight.
  • Make use of 3rd person if it’s enabled. It is better for close to medium-range fights and for peaking around cover. In fact, it allows you to see around the cover without exposing yourself at all.
  • Sniping or using any weapon with a scope at long range is best done in 1st person view. Get comfortable switching between both views.
  • Never tell other players where you are in world chat unless you want to be ambushed or are confident you can take anyone in a fight. Good PVP players will be looking for any clue where another player is to ambush them.
  • Always assume you’re being watched. Other players will be watching for the right moment to attack.
  • The high ground always has an advantage. Try to take fights on equal or higher ground compared to your opponent.

Unturned PVP Weapon Guide

Unturned PVP Tips: Weapons Guide

This section of Unturned PVP tips will focus on which weapons are the best in each situation. Additionally, it will discuss what some of the best weapons for PVP are. Using the best weapon for each situation is key for effective PVP. It should be noted that most fights in Unturned happen from mid to long-range, so place extra value on weapons that excel at these ranges.

Best Close-Range Weapons

PDW: The PDW has a high rate of fire with good recoil compared to other SMGs. It is effective even at mid-range, which is why it is the best close-range weapon you can have. It even fits into your secondary slot.

Determinator: This is the only shotgun that can slot into your secondary slot. It is very useful in urban combat where you are entering a building and want to immediately kill an enemy.

Scalar: The scalar has a higher rate of fire than the PDW, however, it has slightly more recoil. This is the most effective SMG at close range. It is best for urban areas where you need a fast time-to-kill gun when entering a building or turning a corner. It is more accurate than other comparable very high fire rate SMGs.

Bluntforce: The Bluntforce is the best shotgun in the game. Its main drawback is needing to be equipped in your primary slot. It will kill with one shot easily in close-range fights and has a tight spread.

Best Mid-Range Weapons

Maplestrike: The Maplestrike is the best all-around assault rifle in the game. It has a high rate of fire, extremely low recoil, and good damage.

Augewehr: The Augewehr has a slightly lower fire rate than the Maplestrike, with comparably low recoil and damage. Its major perk is that it can use both military and ranger ammo and attachments.

Nightraider: The Nightraider does more damage than the Maplestrike but also has more recoil, particularly horizontal recoil. With a horizontal grip, it can perform similar to the Maplestrike.

Zubeknakov: This gun has the highest fire rate among automatic rifles. It has significant horizontal recoil and performs best with a horizontal grip. In the right hands, this is the best assault rifle in the game, but you need to hit your shots in spite of its recoil and high fire rate.

Heartbreaker: The Heartbreaker is mediocre compared to the guns listed above. However, it’s decent and will be fine until you can get one of the previously mentioned weapons.

Hawkhound/Schofield: These are early-game civilian bolt-action rifles. They are outclassed by other mid-range weapons, however, they are easy to find at safer locations. A headshot and a bodyshot can kill. If you and a teammate can ambush a well-armed player with synchronized shots, they will die immediately as long as one of you hits a headshot. These are not amazing guns, but they can get the job done until you get an automatic assault rifle.

Best Long-Range Weapons

Grizzly: The Grizzly is the best sniper rifle in the game. It is semi-automatic with high damage. This gun requires high-caliber ammo. It will one-shot headshot players without a helmet.

Timberwolf/Ekho: These are bolt-action snipers with high damage. They require high-caliber ammo. They will one-shot headshot players without a helmet.

Sabertooth/Snayperskya: These are semi-automatic sharpshooter rifles. They have no maximum fire rate and will shoot as fast as you can click. They take low-caliber military/ranger ammo respectively. Their maximum range is 50m greater than assault rifles.

Unturned PVP Attachments Guide

This next section will cover each type of attachment. We will go over which are generally the best for each slot and what scenarios a different attachment might excel in. Attachments are a key part of PVP and you will be at a distinct disadvantage against anyone who has the right attachments if you do not have any yourself.

Barrels Guide

The best barrel attachment is a muzzle. It reduces recoil and bullet drop and hides your gun’s flash. The recoil and bullet drop reduction will always be present even at 0% durability. Therefore, you can let a muzzle drop to 0% and not repair it so you can see where your shots are going. A regular barrel attachment is best for close-range hip fire because it reduces bullet spread by 40%. The silencer is only good for use in areas with zombies or if you are worried about a 3rd party hearing your gunshots during an ambush. Generally, a muzzle is what you will want for most situations.

Tactical Attachments Guide

The best tactical attachment for most weapons is an adaptive chambering. It will dramatically increase your weapon’s fire rate. Tactical lasers are really only good for the Bluntforce to reduce bullet spread. It is handy on a Shadowstalker as well since this gun doesn’t have any bullet drop and the range of the laser is also the range of the weapon. If you see a dot on the target it will reach. Finally, never ever use the tactical light. Unless you’re trying to be bait and plan on getting shot. You will be very easy to see and ambush.

Grips Guide

A horizontal grip reduces horizontal recoil and a vertical grip reduces vertical recoil. A bipod heavily reduces both but only when firing from a prone position. Therefore, a bipod is always best if you are able to go prone while firing. This is not always practical though, so using a vertical grip and horizontal grip is necessary. Which grip is best varies depending on the gun and the recoil it has. Consider the fact that a muzzle reduces more vertical recoil than it does horizontal recoil. This means guns with a lot of horizontal recoil perform better when paired with a horizontal grip. Guns that do not have much horizontal recoil by default will not have to worry about this and perform best with the vertical grip. Here is a table of every gun’s best grip.

Sights Guide

Close-range sights such as dot, kobra, or halo sights are pointless if you are using third person. It is usually better to put a cross, chevron, or Augewehr scope on your assault rifles so that when you are shooting at mid/long distance you can use the scope in first person and otherwise use 3rd person. Sniper and sharpshooter rifles use 7x and 8x scopes the best. While the 16X scope can be okay at maximum range, at non-extreme ranges its performance falls off. Even if you are using 3rd person, remember to have some kind of sight attached. Your accuracy and spread in third person will still be improved.
