The most difficult places to live in The Forest are some of the most fun ones in the game. This creates an action-packed and challenging playthrough experience. The Forest is a fan-favorite survival game where you take on the role of an airplane crash survivor who has to survive in the middle of a vast forest that has a lot of secrets to hide. The mutants that live on the lands of The Forest begin to scout you out and grow increasingly agitated with you. You must fight off more intense kinds of mutants and cannibals as the days go by until you figure out the secrets that this mystery land has in store for you and find your missing son. This game is releasing a sequel called The Sons of the Forest in February 2023 to continue where the story of the previous one left off.

The Plane Crash
The plane crash is one of the most obvious and difficult places to live in The Forest because it’s a hot spot for mutants and cannibals to check out due to the collision that has occurred there. You can also get lucky with the location of the plane crash since the crash will be a random location on the bottom half of the map. Sometimes your plane will crash near the main village, which will make the location an even more difficult place to live in the Forest. As the days add up, the mutants in this location become harder and come almost nonstop. This location can be very challenging due to the amount of fighting that you will have to do.
Main Mutant Village
Living at a mutant camp is going to be a very difficult place to live in the Forest for obvious reasons. The mutants will know where you are right away since you are living in their home. The main village will be one of the most difficult places to live in the Forest. From the very first days, you will see mutants and it will increase very rapidly as you cut trees and build. It gets to the point where every time you go outside to cut trees or hunt, you will be attacked. This can be difficult for a solo player but allows for plenty of action for a group.
Beach near Goose Lake
This is a location that a lot of people talk about being a challenge and one of the most difficult places to live in the Forest. The middle of Goose Lake has a cave exit in it and there are a lot of patrol trails that the mutants will travel on, causing your base to be seen frequently. Many people base here because it looks like a nice location next to a beautiful body of water, however, people tend to learn very quickly that it can be a challenging location to base in because the mutants flock to you, just like the geese.
In the Snow Biome
This area is a very difficult place to live in the Forest because you will be cold and wet very frequently, which will make traveling far from a fire a challenge. You will have to supplement your warmth by crafting warmer clothing., which will be essential very quickly. There are also many patrol routes in this area, so if you base near one, then it is likely you will have a difficult location to contend with. You may get attacked by a boar near the outer edges of the biome as well. An update also added an additional cave in this area that lets you complete an alternate ending and gives you an artifact as well.
Near the Sinkhole
The sinkhole is the last on our list of very difficult locations to live in the Forest because many mutants will travel near this area. This location can also be very convenient because it is the last location that you will have to travel to at the end of the game to complete the storyline of The Forest. There are also many spawns for crocodiles and boar near here, which will make going outside an even greater risk on top of the mutants trying to attack you.
